WKU soccer defeated Union University (Tenn.), 4-0, Thursday night at the WKU Soccer Complex. This gives the team their first win of the season, moving them to 1-1.
Senior Kayla Meyer scored two goals for the Hilltoppers, one in the 21st minute and one in the 78th minute, bringing her career total to nine.
“I thought we came out a little bit shaky,” Head Coach Jason Neidell said. “I thought our confidence may be a little rattled. It took a great goal by Kayla Meyer to really get us going. I thought that moment in the game really changed the game and boosted our confidence. I thought we played really well after that.”
Graduate student Olivia Cooke and sophomore Rebecca Roth added goals in the 41st minute and 51st minute. The Lady Toppers were relentless on offense, out-shooting the Bulldogs 17-4 in the first half and 26-7 for the game.
Senior goalkeeper Maddie Davis had three saves in the game and did not allow a goal, making this her first shutout of the season and ninth of her career. The clean sheet moves her into a tie for the sixth most career shutouts in WKU history, tied with Nikki Hall and Nora Abolins.
“I think we did really well (against Union),” Meyer said. “I think we came out and gave it our all and we got the (win).”
The Hilltoppers will look to add another win as they stay in Bowling Green to host Evansville Aug. 25 at 6 p.m.
