Led by a two-goal performance from freshman Abby Weidermann, WKU soccer won their second game of the season, defeating Evansville 4-1 at the WKU Soccer Complex.
Both teams had a quiet first half, neither of them scoring as all six shots on goal were denied. The second half started out the same as the first, with neither team’s defense giving in.
Finally, in the 52nd minute, senior Kendall Wade scored the game’s first goal. Senior Kayla Meyer scored less than three minutes later, giving her three goals on the season.
Evansville answered in the 68th minute, but the Aces had nothing else up their sleeve as they were denied the rest of the game by senior goalkeeper Maddie Davis, who had six saves in the contest.
To seal the deal, Weidermann scored her first goal of the season late in the game, then followed it up with another one in the 90th minute.
WKU outshot the Aces 16-9, with all nine of Evansville’s shots coming in the second half. Another tough stand by the WKU defense gives them their second win in a row and moves them to 2-1 on the season.
The Hilltoppers will get a break before a big game in Fayetteville, Arkansas versus the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sept. 1 at 1 p.m.
