The WKU Libertarians met on Tuesday in Grise Hall to discuss their thoughts and feelings regarding the results of the presidential election.
The WKU Libertarians are a group of individuals who advocate for individual liberty and personal freedom. They hold meetings throughout the semester to discuss libertarian ideals.
The majority of the group said they were dissatisfied with the election results. They discussed different scenarios on how they believed each candidate would proceed in handling the countryโs affairs if elected.
Chris Tindall, junior history major and local coordinator of the WKU Libertarians, said he wouldnโt have been satisfied with either candidate winning unless they were libertarian.
โI just frankly donโt think either of them are going to do a great job,โ Tindall said. โI will say this, as someone who dislikes both of them, I am a little bit happier that Trump got into office just because heโs funny.โ
Jacob Kilburn, senior political science and economics double-major, asked Tindell if Trump, someone who he says is funny, should be president just because he acts like a child.
โKids can be funny, but do you want a kid running your country?โ Kilburn asked. โDonald Trump is like a kid that never grew up.โ
Trenton Hale, sophomore political science and international relations double-major and the regional coordinator of the WKU Libertarians, said he wasnโt as shocked Trump won as he was about him winning the popular vote.
โI was a little more surprised he won,โ Hale said. โIโm shocked he won the popular vote. I donโt think anyone saw that coming.โ
Gabriel Chambers, junior meteorology major, was one of the four group members satisfied with Trumpโs reelection. Chambers said he believed Trump would be more likely to reduce certain government programs compared to the Harris administration who have tended to support more government programs and higher taxes on corporations.
โI think Trump has a better chance of cutting some of these things than a Harris administration,โ Chambers said.
