WKU Men’s Basketball rode a high-scoring second half to victory Saturday in their 90-82 win over the Marshall Thundering Herd at Diddle Arena.
The Hilltoppers scored 36 in the first half before dropping 54 points in the second half, the second most WKU has scored in a half this season, en route to an eight-point victory. In the second half, WKU went 4-5 from three and shot almost 70% from the field.
WKU’s defense also contributed to a solid second half. Marshall missed all 10 of their attempts from three and shot only 35% from the field.
Freshman guard Julius Thedford led WKU, scoring a career-high 19 points. Thedford tallied 12 of his 19 points beyond the arc, shooting 4-5 from three. The Freshman reached double-digit points for the fifth time this season.
Graduate Forward Tyrone Marshall Jr. had a bounce-back performance, scoring 18. In WKU’s previous three games, Marshall Jr. had a combined 13 points.
Senior guard Don McHenry, the Hilltoppers’ leading scorer, was held under double digits for the second straight game. Following a nine-point showing against Kentucky Tuesday night, McHenry was held to six points in only 19 minutes of playing time.
WKU shot 58.3% from the field and 46.7% from three as a team, both heavy improvements from WKU’s loss at Kentucky. Against the Wildcats, the Hilltoppers shot 31% from the field and 15% from three, both are season lows.
WKU will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 7 at Evansville. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
