Fiery accident occurs outside of the Registry Apartments, minor injuries occurred

An accident outside of the Registry Apartments resulted in two minor injuries and a fire early Wednesday night.

Bowling Green Police Department Public Information Officer Ronnie Ward said one vehicle was making a left turn and crossed paths with a second vehicle. The second vehicle hit a utility pole and caught on fire.

Ward said two people in the vehicle that hit the pole suffered minor injuries.

Resident Mahki Zojie said she was in her room when she noticed the collision.

“It happened so fast you couldn’t really comprehend what was happening,” Zojie said.

Zojie said she saw the man hit by the van get out of the car and start yelling. Zojie said that’s when the car caught on fire.

“You could see smoke go up little by little,” Zojie said. “The fire started near the window and started to grow.”

The collision caused traffic lights at the Old Morgantown Rd and University Dr. to go down, which “will take a little time to get it all back on,” Ward tweeted.
