Indoor Track & Field records 17 top-eight finishes

WKU track and field wrapped up another weekend of competitions with 17 top-eight performances in the IU Relays at Indiana.

Head coach Erik Jenkins said he was pleased with what he saw out of his team this past weekend.

“This was another quality weekend for us,” Jenkins said in a WKU press release. “I saw significant improvements in areas where we have to perform well.”

Nine of the top-eight finishes came Friday, while the other eight occurred Saturday.

Julius Morris was the lone Hilltopper that competed at the A-State Invite and Multus. On Friday he notched a second-place showing in the 200-meter with WKU’s fastest time in the event this season at 21.35 seconds.

The rest of the Hilltoppers competed in Bloomington, Indiana, for a couple of days.

Brianna Eskridge led the way for the Lady Toppers, picking up a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a personal best 5.47 meter jump.

Rebecca Cook, Aairiona Hayden-Ransom, Ariel Terrell and Savannah Ames earned a third place finish with a time of 12:34.30, for he Lady Topper distance medley relay team. Ames used a personal best 3,000-meter time of 10:21.77 to notch a fourth place finish.

Morgan McIntyre again landed at the top of the pole vault standings. Her new indoor career-high clear of 3.98 meters marks the second-best clear ever recorded indoors by a Lady Topper. She finished second, losing in a jump-off.

For the men, multiple Hilltoppers produced personal bests.

Will Bush and Jonathan Hayden made their marks on the track yet again. Bush registered a spot in the finals for the 60-meter hurdles, and produced a second-place performance in the 200 with a season-best time of 21.93 seconds. Hayden ran 8.04 seconds in the 60 hurdle prelims, his fastest mark of the season for the event.

Eli Minor registered the fastest 600 dash this season for the Hilltoppers, with a 1:23.44 finish. That was good enough for fifth place. Oliver Alexander wasn’t far behind with a 1:23.96 finish in the same event.

Denzel Villaman, Alec Tanksley, Maor Seged and Taylor Scarbrough brought home a third place finish with a time of 10:46.50 for the men’s medley relay team.

Both Chard Muhwanga and Julien Lewis recorded personal bests for weight throw. Muhwanga tossed a 14.66 meter while Lewis registered a 13.14 meter throw.

Both WKU 4×400 relay teams finished in the top four. The ‘A’ squad, consisting of Alexander, Minor, Tanksley, and David Sanuri, ran a WKU season-best 3:16.81 for second place. The ‘B’ unit earned fourth-place with a 3:20.87 second finish.
