Alert about sword wielding man stirs up Twitter
December 27, 2017
At 5:32 p.m. WKU Alerts chimed on Hilltopper’s phones, informing them that a subject with a sword was running from 531 Dennis, and to stay out of the area.
While other alerts have warned of potential gunshots fired, this unusual one peaked interest, and people were quick to take to Twitter on the matter. Many had one question on their minds.

Yes. Everyone read that correctly. A sword. WKU issued an update to the alert under an hour later saying officers were unable to locate the swordsman, and to be careful if you lived in the area.

When we asked for no more “possible shots fired” texts, we didn’t mean for someone to charge campus with a sword 🙄🤔 pic.twitter.com/Bt40XTmC4K

Was our mysterious swordsman on a quest to rid the world of evil? Were they racing to pay a tuition bill? These are the things that keep us awake at night. https://t.co/3Kl77RIk32
