The qualifying tournament for the Bowling Green Region of FIRST LEGO League is seeking volunteers.

The tournament is taking place on Nov. 18 at the Carroll Knicely Conference Center in South Campus. This tournament offers league members between the ages of 9 and fourteen the opportunity to compete with Mindstorm LEGO robots to solve problems of hydrodynamics.

This tournament will qualify competitors to compete in the state championship, held for the first time this year at Northern Kentucky University. Tournaments will continue up to an international semi-final level, culminating with a final round in Germany.

Volunteers are needed for over 20 positions, including time keepers, practice table assistants, set up and tear down and “pit” guides who make sure competitors get to the correct locations.

Volunteers are required to go through a screening process as part of the FIRST Youth Protection Program. The screening can take up to five days but lasts for three years. Volunteers are needed for both the qualifying Bowling Green tournament and also the state championship.

Volunteers can register to help all day, starting at 7 a.m. or for short periods of time.. Volunteers will all be provided with a T-shirt and a free lunch.

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the Volunteer Coordinator Maggie Mahan at [email protected]. A complete list of volunteer positions and a link to apply can be found here
