Strategic planning meeting discusses structure, identity

The second strategic planning meeting of the semester took place Thursday in Downing Student Union to discuss developing strategies to identify strengths across WKU and tackle the university’s future identity and goals.

WKU President Timothy Caboni and several committees joined together for group discussions to exchange ideas for improving WKU’s organizational structure, research, identity and student importance. The committees first met a month ago to cover these subjects and also met to deliberate on them separately before this meeting.

“It’s about figuring out what our identity will be for the next 10 years,” said Robert Hale, a co-chair of the Academic Innovation and Excellence committee and head of WKU’s English Department.

The meeting encouraged conversation between rotating groups in order to reach multiple ideas of what the strategic planning groups want to achieve. This included a smaller divide between college and departmental relationships and an increased focus on student achievement to create a closer community.

The next strategic planning meeting will take place on Dec. 6 in DSU at 6 p.m. in room 3023.
