Western Kentucky athletics got a big boost in branding and appearance on Tuesday when the school announced a new five-year deal with Nike as its official apparel provider beginning July 1.

The financial terms of the deal have yet to be released, and the company will suit all 16 WKU sports programs.

“All of our sport programs and student-athletes will benefit from the relationship with Nike,” athletic director Todd Stewart said.  “We are very excited to partner with the leading and most recognizable brand in athletics.”

The announcement comes less than a day after WKU and Russell Athletic mutually discontinued their exclusive on-field sponsorship agreement, which will take effect on June 30.

Russell’s partnership with WKU spans back to 2007, and the company will continue to serve as an apparel licensee for WKU.

“We have enjoyed a terrific partnership with Russell Athletic over the last 10 years,” WKU athletic director Todd Stewart said in a statement on Monday. “Our athletics programs have experienced significant growth during this time, and we are deeply appreciative to Fruit of the Loom and Russell Athletic for their vital role. We look forward to continuing to work with them in growing our licensed apparel business.”

A full uniform reveal with Nike will take place this summer, according to the school.
