Two Student Government Association members resigned Wednesday morning following a complaint that alleged several SGA members have made racist remarks.

During the SGA’s meeting on Tuesday night, Chief Justice Cody Cox reported the Judicial Council received a complaint regarding several SGA members.

The allegation stated several members of the SGA had made “racist remarks at some point in time.” Cox said the Judicial Council would be meeting on Wednesday night to determine if it would start an investigation into the incident.

During Wednesday night’s council meeting, Cox reported two members of the SGA, a senator and a justice, resigned from their respective offices. The Judicial Council will not be considering an investigation since the individuals in question are no longer a part of the SGA.

The Judicial Council could not comment on the identities of the members involved in the incident or the nature of the remarks, as the allegation was not fully investigated.

“Because the truthfulness of the allegation has not yet been determined, I don’t think it’s right to mention what was heard through the rumor mill,” Cox said.

SGA President Jay Todd Richey will appoint a new senator and a new justice to the vacant positions during the next SGA meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
