Student hit by car, transported to Nashville hospital

Bowling Green Police examine belongings scattered by a Shawntrice Hammonds who was hit by a car on Russellville Road. The accident occurred around 10 p.m. on Sunday beneath the train overpass. Hammonds was flown to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, according to a BGPD report.

A female student was hit by a car around 10 p.m. Sunday night. Shawntrice Hammonds, 19, was struck by a car as she was crossing Russellville Road underneath the overpass, according to a Bowling Green Police report.

The driver of the car said he applied his brakes, but could not stop before hitting Hammonds, according to the report. BGPD say the driver’s headlights were not on.

Witnesses say Hammonds did not have her contact lenses in.

Hammonds was transported to the Medical Center then flown to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. The extent of the student’s injuries are unknown at this time.

BGPD say it is investigating to determine the cause of the accident and it is unlikely that any charges will be filed.
