WKU volleyball dishes UTEP straight sweep on Thursday

WKU volleyball (26-5, 14-1) orchestrated a 3-0 win over UTEP (6-20, 4-11) by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-10 in Diddle arena on Thursday night, extending its current win streak to seven. 

WKU’s offence was lead again by outside hitters freshman Alyssa Cavanaugh and junior Haley Bodway. Cavanaugh had 11 kills on the night while Bodway notched 10.

Freshman setter Jessica Lucas proved to be a vital all-around player on the floor, adding 31 assists with seven kills, seven digs, three blocks and two service aces.

Junior outside hitter Rachel Engle tabbed a pair of aces to contribute to WKU’s six.

The Lady Toppers offense was complimented by a strong defensive showing.

Sophomore defensive specialist Georgia O’Connell had 14 digs while junior middle hitter Noelle Langenkamp led the team with four blocks. Senior middle hitter Heather Boyan notched three blocks on her second-to-last match in Diddle arena.

WKU will end its regular season with a match on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m., taking on Middle Tennessee in Bowling Green. The evening marks the Lady Toppers’ Senior Night, and the careers of Boyan and Mollie Pajakowski will be celebrated.
