WKU misses sweep, falls to Texas State 11-2

For the first time this season, the WKU Lady Topper softball team fell victim to the run-rule, falling to Texas State 11-2 in five innings.

WKU (31-15-1, 10-5 Sun Belt Conference) was held to just three hits in the final game of the series against Texas State (22-26, 5-10 SBC).

The Bobcat bats came alive the the finale of the series, exploding for 11 runs on 11 hits one day after only scoring one run in Friday’s doubleheader games.

Texas State wasted no time jumping out in front scoring two runs in the both the first and second innings.

Lady Topper starter senior Emily Rousseau was pulled after just one inning of work after giving up three runs.

The relief pitchers, however, did not fair much better. Freshman Hannah Miniard allowed six runs in 2.1 innings of work while junior Janna Scheff allowed two runs in one inning before the game was called.

Junior infielder Preslie Cruce and freshman outfielder India Steward both had one hit and one RBI on the day. Junior catcher Jacqueline McGill had the other hit for the Lady Toppers.

WKU will be back in action this week with a pair of midweek games. First up for the Lady Toppers will be No. 16 Kentucky (37-8) Tuesday at 6 p.m. Then on Wednesday WKU will take on Lipscomb (35-11) at 5 p.m.

Both games will be at the WKU Softball Field in Bowling Green.
