Govan hits game winner: Lady Toppers steal victory from Georgetown 57-55

Bianca McGee tied it, and Alexis Govan stole it and won it as the WKU Lady Toppers came from behind to beat Georgetown 57-55 in dramatic fashion in the final round of the Puerto Rico Classic on Saturday afternoon.

WKU scored just 17 points in the first half and was down by as much as 16 early in the second half, but senior guard Bianca McGee went on to net three 3-point field goals to bring the Lady Toppers within five points in the second half.

WKU trailed 55-52 with 13 seconds remaining before McGee drained a three-pointer to tie the game at 55.

Junior guard Alexis Govan then stole the ball at midcourt and scored the winning bucket to give the Lady Toppers the dramatic victory.

McGee led the team with 19 points and Govan added 17. The two combined for 11 rebounds, six assists and eight steals.

Freshman center Bria Gaines added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Toppers. 

WKU travels to Mobile, Ala. on Jan. 1 to face South Alabama in the first conference game of the season.
