Music blared from the inside of the Downing Student Union auditorium Friday night as Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity, a co-ed business fraternity, hosted their fifth annual fashion show.

The show, called “Rip the Workplace”, featured both male and female models donning several forms of business clothing, ranging from business casual to cocktail attire. The models walked up and down the walkways of the auditorium allowing audience members to get a closer look at their apparel.

Articles of clothing featured in the show included polo shirts, high heels, suits, and ties. The fashion show also included a ‘What Not to Wear to an Interview’ segment where the models wore casual clothing such as blue jeans and hats.

Nashville, Tenn., senior Coumba Sow, who organized the event, said it was stressful. Sow said she had to ask local business sponsors for the clothing involved and organize the practice sessions.

“It was a lot of work, but it was fun,” Sow said.

Sow said the intent of the fashion show was to prove that people can look classy, but professional at the same time. Sow said she believed the goal was accomplished.

The fashion show also encouraged audience members to come up on stage and participate in a model competition for a gift card.

Louisville senior Chris Mills said he enjoyed participating.

“It was alright,” Mills said. “It’s all in fun.”

Special guests attended the event including Jeffrey Katz, dean of the Gordon Ford College of Business, and WKU’s mascot Big Red. Big Red interacted with audience members during the fashion show and even participated in the show himself.

Lexington sophomore Brandon Barber, who was a model in the event, said he enjoyed being in the show.

“I was a little nervous, but I really liked it,” Barber said.
