Thompson Complex North Wing will permanently close next semester.

The building currently houses the Biology and Chemistry departments.

Bob Skipper, director of media relations, confirmed the closing of this building.

SGA President Keyana Boka announced during Tuesday’s Student Government Association that the building will be closed due to inability to maintain the building over the winter months.

“They’re currently working out temporary locations for the classes and the labs there,” Boka said.

The building was labeled for demolition back in 2005, as renovations would not be financially possible.

“They’re having a lot of difficulties with the internal side of the building,” Boka said. “It’s a very old building.”

Demolition of this building, along with renovation of Thompson Complex Center Wing, are the University’s top capital priority leading into the new year.

It is the University’s goal to have money provided for the completion of these projects from the Kentucky General Assembly, something they have been trying to get approved since 2008.
