WKU’s long Sun Belt Conference winning streak came to an end on the road Sunday as the Lady Toppers fell 3-2 to Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Lady Toppers had won 38 straight Sun Belt matches and hadn’t lost in league play since Oct. 4, 2011. The loss also snapped WKU’s current 10-match winning streak.

Three WKU (16-5, 5-1 Sun Belt Conference) players had career days in the loss. Senior outside hitter Janee’ Diggins and sophomore middle hitter Noelle Langenkamp each posted career-highs in kills with 16 in the match.

Senior outside hitter Paige Wessel also recorded 16 kills on the day, which gave her over 1,000 kills in her career.

Senior setter Melanie Stutsman tallied her third double-double of the season with 57 assists and 11 digs in the match.

Four of the five sets were decided by five points or less. WKU took the first set in a close one 28-26. ULL rebounded in the second set edging out the Lady Toppers 25-20.

The third set was the sole blowout set of the day as WKU won 25-11 to take the 2-1 lead in the match. However, the team dropped the last two sets to lose the match 3-2.

ULL took the fourth and fifth set by two points each time — 25-23 and 15-13 respectively.

WKU has two more Sun Belt Conference road games this weekend as it travels to Arkansas for games against Arkansas-Little Rock and Arkansas State.

WKU and UALR (15-4, 7-0 SBC) will play Friday at 7 p.m. The Lady Toppers will turn around and play Arkansas State (9-12. 5-2 SBC) the next day at 7 p.m.
