Football-hungry fans can get their first look at the WKU football team this season starting on Monday.

The Toppers will take part in 23 practices in August leading up to the season opener against Kentucky on Aug. 31, and many practices will be open to the public.

The final month before the start of the year will be the first time veterans and newcomers hit the field together. The Toppers are about to begin their first year under new coach Bobby Petrino, who brought in an entirely new coaching staff after last season.

The first two weeks of practices, which will take place at Smith Stadium on WKU’s campus, will be open to the public. After that, the only practices that the public will be able to attend will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, a policy which should continue through the regular season. Fans in attendance are asked to refrain from taking photos or video during practice.

Topper fans will be able to attend a total of 18 practices before the start of the year and will be able to catch two scrimmages in that time. The scrimmages are set to take place on Aug. 12 and Aug. 17.

The Toppers will take part in several two-a-day practices that will be open to the public over the course of the month as well, taking place on Aug. 11, Aug. 13, Aug. 15, and Aug. 21.
