WKU takes doubleheader against Samford

The Lady Toppers got back to their winning ways Wednesday, picking up two victories against Samford.

Both matchups were decided by the run rule. WKU (22-13) is now 8-4 all-time against Samford.

The Lady Toppers used 10 hits from eight different batters to take the first game 8-0.

Junior pitcher Emily Rousseau earned her 12th win of the season as she struck out seven while allowing just one hit.

Junior infielder Amanda Thomas ended the game in fashion with a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to give WKU an eight-run advantage.

With that, Thomas is now the all-time home runs leader in WKU history with 29, with nine of them coming this season.

The Lady Toppers totaled 10 hits again in the second game of the doubleheader and won 10-.

Senior pitcher Mallorie Sulaski started the game in the circle for the Lady Toppers and gave up three hits while striking out three.

WKU is back in action this weekend for a series with Louisiana Monroe. The first game of the Saturday doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m. at WKU Softball Complex.

The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at noon.
