Claire Donahue has come up short in her quest for gold in the 100-meter butterfly.

The former WKU swimmer finished seventh in the finals of the 100 fly on Sunday at the Olympics Aquatic Centre in London, posting a time of 57.48 seconds.

Fellow American Dana Vollmer won gold in the event, swimming the finals in a world record 55.98 seconds.

China’s Lu Ying won silver while Australia’s Alicia Coutts won bronze.

Donahue may still have another chance to win an Olympic medal, as she is expected be a part of the US 4×100 medley relay team on Friday.

Former WKU track athlete Bernd Hermann remains the only Topper athlete to medal in the Olympics.

Hermann won a bronze medal in the 4×400 meter relay for West Germany in the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
