WKU Bowling Green and several regional campuses are closing early on Friday due to the threat of severe storms in Kentucky.

The Bowling Green campus will close at 12:30, and the Glasgow, Owensboro and Hardin Co. campuses will close at 1 p.m.

The Weather Channel TORCON (Tornado Condition) index is a nine, which means there is a 90 percent chance of a tornado warning within 50 miles of any given location.

Students were alerted of the cancellation via text message from WKU, and faculty and staff received an email from Gordon Emslie, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, alerting them of the potential severe weather.

Emslie wrote that the storms will likely hit from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. CT.

The Herald will provide updates on the weather as they become available.
