WKU has struggled throughout the first two months of the year, as reflected by its 3-9 record.

But the Lady Toppers get a chance to continue some positive momentum on Thursday.

WKU, 1-0 in Sun Belt Conference play, gets back into its league schedule with a 5:30 p.m. game against Louisiana-Monroe at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Freshman guard Alexis Govan said after the team’s most recent loss, a 75-38 defeat on Dec. 21 at Texas Tech, that the Lady Toppers were using their nonconference struggles as motivation for Sun Belt play.

“All the preseason games are behind us,” Govan said at the time. “When it comes to conference time, we’re going to be mad and all the beatings we’ve gotten. We’re going to take them out on somebody in conference.”

WKU dominated Florida International on Dec. 11 in its league opener, beating the Golden Panthers 65-48 in Diddle Arena.

The Lady Toppers have controlled their series against the Warhawks, 10-3, and get a ULM club that’s lost 11 of 13 games this season.

The Warhawks’ schedule includes losses to Central Arkansas, Missouri-Kansas City and Grambling State.

ULM is led by center Larrie Williams (16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game) and guard Elizabeth Torres (10.1 ppg and 6.2 assists per game).

WKU will get its second-leading scorer, guard Danay Fothergill, back in game action for the first time since breaking a bone in her foot in late November.

Head Coach Mary Taylor Cowles told the Bowling Green Daily News that Fothergill (9.5 ppg) will play at ULM.

She also said senior forward Keshia Mosley, who was suspended for the Texas Tech loss because of a team rules violation, will play Thursday.
