The Lady Toppers will send senior Marion Kandie to the NCAA cross country Championship after she placed fourth in the Southeast Regional meet Saturday at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville.

Kandie qualified automatically for an individual invitation with her high finish and will compete at the national level for the second time in two years. She led the Lady Toppers, who placed 16th as a team.

Senior Michelle Finn finished second for the Lady Toppers, coming in at 51st. Junior Vasity Chemweno rounded out the Lady Toppers’ top three with a 71st-place finish.

On the men’s side, the Toppers finished 10th in the region.

They also put two runners in the top ten — senior Deus Rwaheru and freshman Peter Okwera — who placed ninth and 20th, respectively. Rwaheru will find out Sunday if he qualified for a trip to the NCAA Championship.

Rwaheru and Okwera both received all-Southeast Region honors. Freshman David Mokone finished behind his teammates and placed 32nd.

The NCAA Championship will be Nov. 21 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
