Florida Atlantic threw more than fuel on the fire

Thursday night before it plays WKU.

FAU set ablaze an effigy of WKU mascot Big Red at its

Fourth Annual Fall Bonfire.

The event was originally scheduled for Aug. 25,

preceding the Owls’ season opener against Florida.

But inclement weather forced the bonfire to be

rescheduled for the WKU game.

In the past, FAU students have burned effigies of

Texas mascot Bevo before a 2008 matchup with the Longhorns, a block

“N” before a 2009 game against Nebraska and a dragon’s head before

the Owls’ 2010 game against Alabama-Birmingham.

FAU students who attended were given free food

provided by the school’s Student Government and fall T-shirts

sponsored by the FAU Student Alumni Association.

Kickoff between the Toppers and Owls is set for 3

p.m. CT Saturday.
