WKU basketball’s Hilltopper Hysteria scheduled for Oct. 14

Fans of all ages will be able to attend two WKU sporting events on Oct. 14 free of charge.

WKU’s volleyball team hosts Florida International at 6 p.m., and Hilltopper Hysteria the annual kick-off event for the men’s and women’s basketball seasons immediately follows.

The idea is to get more and different fans to come out to a volleyball match, said Assistant Director of Athletic Marketing Megan Micheli.

“It’s definitely a different crowd that wouldn’t normally come,” Micheli said. “That’s what Coach (Travis) Hudson wants  for people to just come out to one game and get hooked.”

WKU did the same thing two years ago when WKU hosted Denver in volleyball on the same day as Hilltopper Hysteria.

Micheli said the idea was a success then, and a different crowd was indeed in attendance.

The tentative plans are for the volleyball match to end sometime around 8 p.m., with Hilltopper Hysteria starting immediately after it.

Micheli said specific plans for Hilltopper Hysteria haven’t been finalized yet, but she did say the event will be significantly shorter than in years past.

“We’re looking it being about an hour long,” she said. “We’re taking some of the stuff out of it, but keeping all the necessary things.”
