South Alabama has replaced WKU on Hawaii’s 2012 football schedule, according to a Hawaii athletics release published Wednesday.

The game was to be the Toppers’ 13th and not count against bowl eligibility, possibly creating a scenario in which WKU could play 14 games in a season.

Now, according to the Hawaii release, the teams will play in “a future season to be determined.”

South Alabama’s football program began in 2009 and will join the Sun Belt Conference in 2013.
