SGA Notes: Money allotted for One Planet Day; Academic calendar planning begins

At tonight’s Student Government Association meeting:

-Secretary Katie Stillwell attended WKU’s most recent Calendar Planning meeting, where officials began planning the 2012-2013 academic calendar. They discussed possibly moving fall break and pushing  spring break back. The calendar will be released in the coming weeks, Stillwell said.

-The last study abroad scholarship award bill was approved. Twenty-three students will receive a total of $6,700.

-The senate also approved a bill that will allocate $500 to purchase reusable water bottles in support of One Planet Day, formally known as Earth Day.

-A resolution was passed that will support the endorsement of Buck for Luck and the Topper Talent Benefit Concert. These events are put on by Hilltoppers for a Cure and Relay for Life.

-Another $250 was allocated for the funding of the National College Dodgeball Association national tournament, which was last weekend.

-Award nominations were given during the meeting. There are five awards that will be voted on next week and will be announced at the end-of-the-year banquet on May 10.

-Billy Stephens, Director of Academic and Student Affairs, said the deadline for applications for the Hall of Distinguished Seniors is April 21.

-Stephens, who was elected as president last week for next school year, passed out applications for senate committee heads. Those will be due April 26.
