Loup Langton, director of the visual journalism program at the University of Miami, has accepted an offer to become director of WKU’s School of Journalism and Broadcasting, according to an email from David Lee, dean of Potter College.

Langton was a finalist for the spot along with Thomas Terry, chair of the mass communication department at Idaho State University.

Langton has other obligations this summer but will start at WKU in July, according to Lee’s email.

“In the meantime, I’ll be working with him to assure a smooth transition to his new duties,” Lee said.

Langton is well-traveled. He was a faculty member at the University of Missouri School of Journalism in the 1990s and in 1998 became director of photography for El Universo, Ecuador’s largest newspaper.

Lagnton has been published multiple times, most recently in 2009 with his book, “Photojournalism and Today’s News, Creating Visual Reality.” He also worked to establish the SomosFoto workshop in Quito, Ecuador.
