“The WKU Police are investigating an assault that occurred on main campus. On Thursday 10/21/2010 at about 7:00 PM an assault occurred on Normal Ave near Cravens Library. WKU Police caution the campus community to travel in pairs or groups at night or to use the WKU Escort Service by calling 745-3333 or 745-2548. The following crime prevention tips may help better insure your safety:

Decide what action you are going to take in various situations, before any incident occurs. If you don’t think about this in advance, you may not know what to do when it actually happens.

• Be alert to your surroundings.

• Be vocal in your assertiveness to stop unwanted attention.

• Never walk alone.

• If you are traveling alone, call someone to let them know you are leaving; buy a cellular phone; check the seats of the car before getting into it; and lock your doors immediately.

• Follow a well lighted path when walking at night.

• If you are being followed, go to a public place or police station before stopping.”
