Adrienne Tarrence, a 5-9 point guard from Bowling Green High School, has given a verbal commitment to play at Belmont, BGHS coach Lavonda Johnson told the Herald on Monday.

Tarrence had previously narowed her list to WKU and Belmont after making official visits to both schools.

Johnson said Tarrence enjoyed her visit to Belmont and ultimately decided to head there because she wanted to get out of Bowling Green. It was a decision that Johnson said “shocked” her.

“Before her visit, she told me that she was higher on Western,” Johnson said. “But then she went on her visit and she felt comfortable with the players (at Belmont) and their coaches.

“Western did a great job recruiting her and I’m a little biased toward WKU being an alumnus, but I support her decision and wish her well.”

Mary Taylor Cowles’ current 2011 class contains two other in-state prospects, Franklin-Simpson’s Chastity Gooch and Pulaski Southwestern’s Danay Fothergill, who is also a point guard.
