WKU announced on Tuesday the hiring of Ron Burchett as full-time women’s golf coach.

Burchett has been on the Lady Toppers’ staff for six years, most recently as part-time head coach since January of 2009.

One of Atheltics Director Ross Bjork’s initial goals was to hire full-time men’s and women’s golf coaches at WKU. He’s now accomplished that, adding Burchett as women’s coach after hiring Phillip Hatchett to coach the men’s team last week.

Burchett called his new position a “dream job” in a university release.

“I am honored to be part of a great university with such a rich history in athletics, to work with great student-athletes and the WKU athletics staff and to work beside Phillip Hatchett,” Burchett said.

Bjork noted that Burchett has worked with limited resources as head coach for two seasons, and after interviews, “total confidence” remains in the incumbent candidate for the job.

“His knowledge of our program and student-athletes coupled with his experience in the community will enable this to be a seamless transition,” Bjork said. “The best days for WKU golf lay ahead.”

Burchett attended WKU from 1990-1994.
