Trips, money make good gifts

Graduation is coming up – only a few days are left to get the perfect present.

Local businesses have been packed with customers ready to take suggestions on what to get for their children, friends and siblings.

Steve Allen, a sales manager at Total Images Audio said he stays busy this time of year with graduation orders piling in. Some of their best selling items are tinted windows, DVD/CD players and speakers.

“Two parents recently bought their child a video system that had a DVD player with a flip down screen and more orders keep coming in,” Allen said.

Although not as many orders come in for graduation as they do for spring break, Ruthie Mason, a travel consultant for Quality Travel said vacations are a nice gift. The most popular trips for graduates include Cancun and Jamaica.

Champion Pools and Spas sales assistant Leandra Rice suggests getting a spa for a graduation gift.

“What a better way to celebrate a four-year degree than relaxing in a spa,” she said.

For a good graduation gift on a lower budget, shoppers can look at discount department stores like Target.

Roberta Forte, a manager at Target, said Palm Pilots, organizers, Play Station 2 game consoles and luggage are some possible gifts for graduates.

Alana Smith, an assistant manager at Pier 1 Imports, also suggests house hold items.

“You could get wine glasses, tables, furniture, anything to fix up your home would be a nice gift,” Smith said.

Graduates like Bowling Green senior Kristie Hughes have several things on their personal wish list.

“I would prefer money, so I could save and get a bigger item that I would need,” Hughes said.
