Western officials are investigating a weekend fight that injured a Sigma Nu fraternity member.

Bowling Green police looked into the scuffle that occurred at the Sigma Nu house, 1311 College St., but suspended their investigation because of a lack of leads, according to a police spokesperson.

Western’s investigation of the fight should be wrapped up in a few days, said Charley Pride, student activities and organizations coordinator.

Meanwhile, a man who attacked Sigma Nu member Austin Stevens remains at large.

Stevens would not comment about the incident, nor would Sigma Nu president Matt Coffman.

But Stevens told police Saturday a man threw him off the porch of the fraternity house, kicked him several times in the ribs, once in the face and then fled.

According to a Bowling Green police report, the man was part of a small group that tried to crash a fraternity party around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

Stevens told police the man attacked him after Stevens and other Sigma Nu members told the group the party was for fraternity members only.

Police reported Stevens refused medical treatment Saturday.

In the report, police say Stevens described his attacker as a black man between 18 and 21 years old, 6 feet tall, weighing between 190 and 200 pounds and wearing a red T-shirt.

While city police halted its investigation, Pride said a university investigation is standard procedure following any negative incident involving a Western fraternity or sorority.

Findings from the investigation will help determine if the fraternity will be sanctioned because of the incident.

“The investigation should be completed in a couple of days, and we’ll make a decision from there,” Pride said.
