WKU Soccer junior forward Katie Erwin was awarded the first Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week Award of the fall season on Tuesday afternoon.

Erwin notched a total of seven points in the opening week of the Lady Toppers’ regular season, recording two goals and three assists in the first two matches of the year.

The Louisville native has been a factor in every WKU score so far this season. Her efficiency was put on full display this week, scoring two goals on just five total shots with four shots on goal.

In the Lady Toppers’ season-opener against Austin Peay, Erwin took charge of the offense and scored the game-winning goal in the 51st minute of the match and then assisted Annah Hopkins’ insurance goal in the 55th minute to put WKU up 2-0.

In the Lady Toppers’ last matchup, played against DII Union University, Erwin took a corner kick and found an open Mackenzie Crittenberger for WKU’s first goal of the game in the 26th minute.

In the 59th minute, Erwin set up teammate Briana Sayoc for her first-ever collegiate goal. In the 64th minute, Avery Jacobsen took a free kick and got the ball to Erwin who put in WKU’s third goal of the night.

Erwin now has 19 career points, seven career goals and five assists during her time on The Hill. This is her second career player-of-the-week nod.

The Lady Toppers will face off against the nationally ranked no. 18 Vanderbilt Commodores this Thursday evening at 7 p.m. CT at the WKU Soccer Complex.
