One person is dead following a Sunday evening shooting on East 13th St. next to the railroad tracks and behind the WKU Apartments on Kentucky Street, according to the Bowling Green Police Department.

According to Public Information Officer Ronnie Ward, BGPD received a report of shots fired at 19 E. 13th St. at 5:40 p.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they located a male inside the building who had suffered gunshot wounds.

Ward said officers attempted life-saving measures, but these were unsuccessful and the male was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Ward, the identity of the deceased has been confirmed, but BGPD will be withholding that information until the family can be notified. On May 2, the BGPD identified the male victim as Willie J. Bays. He was 44 and a resident of Bowling Green. He was pronounced dead after being shot multiple times.

BGPD does not have a suspect at this time. Ward encouraged anyone with information regarding the incident to call (270) 393-4000.
