WKU Women’s Golf finish third in the Southern

WKU placed third in The Southern hosted by Georgia Southern University. The three day tournament was played at the Savannah Golf Club from 6036 yards.

After the first round, WKU was tied in second place with Georgia Southern University. The team shot a first round total of 296.

Freshman Sydney Hackett started the tournament strong with a first round score of 71. Junior Adie Westbrook fired a 73. Senior Sarah Arnold was close behind with a 74 in the first round.


The Hilltoppers remained in second place behind Georgia Southern University after day two of the tournament. WKU trailed GSU by eight strokes after day two. The Hiltoppers posted a total team score of 308 in the second round.

The Hilltoppers made a statement on day two with three players in the top ten. Arnold stood in fifth place after shooting a 73. Fifth year senior Kenlie Barrett carded a 76 to find ninth place on the second day. 

Hackett was the third player in the top ten in 10th place after the second round. Junior Rachel Rich improved her score from the first round by three strokes to shoot a 79 in the second 18 holes,

The Hilltoppers posted a final  team score of 307 to finish in third place. 

Freshman Averi Cline had the low score on the team on the third day, carding a 75. Arnold and Barret both finished the tournament shooting a 76 to place them both in the top ten. Arnold and Barret both finished the tournament tied for ninth place. 

Sophomore Catie Craig closed the tournament with her lowest round of the three days with a 78.

WKU returns to Bowling Green Oct. 24-25 for their home tournament played at the Club at Olde Stone. The Olde Stone Intercollegiate is co-hosted by WKU and the University of Louisville.
