WKU Men’s Golf plays in Earl Yestingsmeier match play

WKU Men’s Golf participated in Ball State University’s Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play event Feb. 5-6. The Hilltoppers won one of three matches in the tournament. 

The event took place at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Florida. 

WKU’s first match took place Monday morning. The Hilltoppers faced off with Loyola Chicago in the match and fell 4-2 in match play.

Despite losing four of six matchups, junior Connery Meyer and senior Luke Fuller picked up wins in their matches. Both Meyer and Fuller won their matchups two up on their opponents.

In the afternoon matchup, WKU faced the Dayton Flyers. The Flyers also defeated the Hilltoppers 4-2.

Sophomore Riley Grindstaff and fifth-year Landon Carner picked up the two wins for WKU against Dayton.

In their final matchup on Tuesday morning, the Hilltoppers took down Central Michigan. WKU defeated Central Michigan 3-2-1. The win gave WKU a 1-2 record in three matchups for the event.

Senior Luke Fuller won his matchup 3 & 2, Meyer won his match 2 & 1 and Carner picked up the third win at one up. Grindstaff also had a tie in his matchup, which ultimately won the match for the Hilltoppers.

Up next, WKU Men’s Golf will play in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament hosted by South Alabama will be played Feb.13-14.
