WKU Volleyball defeats Sam Houston in first of two weekend matchups

Western Kentucky Volleyball continued its winning streak as they took down the Sam Houston Bearkats Friday, Oct. 20 at Diddle Arena. Within Conference-USA, the Hilltoppers still stand undefeated. 

The Hilltoppers now hold a 19-4 regular season record. 

The first set was claimed by Western Kentucky with a 25-11 score. The sophomore defensive specialist, Abby Scahefer led the set with 6 digs. Offensively, redshirt sophomore setter Callie Bauer also led with 13 assists. 

WKU claimed the set victory with a .607 hitting percentage compared to Sam Houston’s .185. 

The second set was a little closer at 25-14. Their hitting percentage was still considerably higher at .346% to .080%. The set ended with fifth year senior outside hitter Paige Briggs serving three straight aces to put the Hilltoppers on top. 

The Hiltoppers came out victorious in the third set as they swept Sam Houston 25-11. Briggs led the Tops with 14 kills and 24 points throughout the match with help from Schafer with her 20 digs.

WKU volleyball will take on Sam Houston again tomorrow afternoon, Oct. 21  at 1 p.m. CT at Diddle Arena.
