Lady Toppers second half surge leads to dominating victory

WKU Womens Basketball fought to a win against Miami (Ohio) in Saturday’s game, winning 63-43.

The Lady Hilltoppers started the first half of the game slowly. The RedHawks were up 6-5 in the first quarter of the game. The RedHawks stayed in the lead for the second quarter. The half-time score was 20-12.

The third quarter saw WKU take the lead. The Lady Toppers jumped ahead by eight points, scoring 15 in the beginning of the third quarter. The RedHawks reclaimed their lead with two free throws before WKU bounced back. They outscored the RedHawks the remainder of the quarter. This left the Lady Toppers in the lead, 51-31. 

The fourth quarter yielded 12 points for both teams, resulting in a 63-43 Lady Topper win.  

Senior Teresa Faustino led WKU in scoring, dropping a career high 17 points. Faustino also had a career high five 3-pointers against the RedHawks. 

Sophomore Acacia Hayes scored 13 of the Lady Topper’s final 63 points. This is Hayes’ fourth straight game with double figures. Junior Alexis Mead had six assists for the game. 

This marks the 26th time head coach Greg Collins has led the Lady Toppers to victory following a halftime deficit, and is his 90th career win as the Lady Toppers head man.

The Lady Toppers will return to Diddle Arena on Nov. 21, to compete against Bucknell University.
