WKU women’s basketball will head out west for a two-game road trip starting Thursday, Feb. 15, when they take on the UTEP Miners.
The two teams faced earlier this season on Jan. 20, with WKU taking a tight 66-65 win at home.
With six games left in the regular season, WKU looks to get even with FIU and take the second seed in the conference. Riding a two-game win streak after impressive wins in their return to Bowling Green, WKU heads to El Paso at 15-10 (6-4 Conference-USA).
UTEP (8-14, 3-6 CUSA) find themselves at seventh in C-USA. The team is led by senior forward Jane Asinde, who averages 16.2 points per game, which is second in the conference. She also averages 8.9 rebounds per game, good for third in C-USA. Fellow senior guard Erin Wilson averages 12.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. The team averages 11.7 steals per game and turns the ball over 17 times a contest.
The Lady Toppers have been riding a streak of impressive defensive play, averaging 10.8 steals per game, which is the most in C-USA. They’re also forcing teams into 19.76 turnovers per game this season, which is the second-highest average in the conference. In the team’s last two wins, they’ve held opponents to 56 and 45 points while forcing 20 turnovers.
Junior guard Alexis Mead leads the conference in steals with 52 on the season. She’s also third in the league in assists with 95.
Freshman forward Caitlyn Staley was named C-USA Freshman of the Week on Monday for her combined 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocks against Louisiana Tech and Jacksonville State.
