WKU Women’s Basketball led in all but 11 seconds in their commanding 92-62 win over the Tennessee State Lady Tigers Wednesday.
WKU shot 47% from the floor led by five players in double figures. Sophomore guard Mackenzie Chatfield had a career night leading the Lady Toppers with 20 points.
The Lady Toppers continued to cause trouble on the defensive end forcing the Lady Tigers into 25 turnovers where WKU scored 28 points.
FIRST HALF
The Lady Toppers got started early, jumping out to a quick 14-4 lead in just four minutes against the Lady Tigers. After the timeout WKU did not let up. Led by Gilven’s nine first quarter points the Lady Toppers took a 17 point lead 28-11 going into the second quarter.
In the second quarter WKU could not miss, outscoring the Lady Tigers 26-15. WKU continued to dominate, forcing 16 turnovers and scoring 20 points off of those turnovers. Chatfield took over scoring 13 of the Lady Toppers 26 as WKU took a comfortable 54-26 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
Tennessee State looked to get something started early in the third quarter, however, the Lady Toppers countered after every score from the Lady Tigers. WKU continued to pour the points on, taking a commanding 80-49 lead going into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
It was all but over to begin the fourth quarter. WKU took a commanding lead early in the game and did not look back. The Lady Tigers could get nothing going due to the active hands of WKU. The Lady Toppers took a huge lead and did not look back with the final being 92-52.
The Lady Toppers have a chance to improve to 7-0 Dec. 1 against Miami (OH) at Diddle Arena.
