WKU Women’s Basketball bounced back from their first loss with a dominating win over Kentucky Wesleyan Wednesday, 88-61.
After a season-low shooting percentage against Wichita State, WKU rebounded with a 57% mark from the field.
Senior guard Alexis Mead led the way with 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
It was a total team effort, with eight Hilltoppers scoring at least seven points, helping lead the charge to a bounce-back game.
FIRST HALF
The Lady Toppers got off to a hot start, taking a 23-9 lead with just a minute and a half left in the quarter. A 6-0 run by the Panthers left WKU ahead 23-15 heading into the second quarter. Mead took over with 11 points, powered by two straight threes in the middle of the period.
The Lady Toppers’ consistency was key in the second quarter. Again, they scored 23 points in the period, powering a 46-31 lead at the break. Guard Acacia Hayes led with seven points, hitting two key three-pointers.
SECOND HALF
The defense was the emphasis of the third quarter, as the Lady Toppers only gave up 10 points, energizing the offense to blow the game open and take a 71-41 lead into the fourth. Zsofia Telegy took over early, providing seven quick points to put the game out of reach.
The fourth quarter was a breakout for several players, including Torri James, who added five points to end the game. The Hilltoppers were outscored in the quarter, but the result was an 88-61 win.
The Lady Toppers will have a week off before a trip to Hawaii for the Maui Classic. The event’s first game is against Oregon State on Thursday, Dec. 19.
