WKU Softball will begin Conference USA play March 7-9 at Sam Houston State University.
The Hilltoppers were handed their first two home losses in last weekend’s Hilltopper Spring Fling against Kentucky. Despite the losses, WKU defeated Evansville once and Tennessee Tech University twice. The Hilltoppers hold a 13-6 overall record and a 7-2 home record.
Hilltopper MVPs of last weekend include sophomore pitcher Rylan Smith and sophomore infielder Maci Masters. Smith put up a season-high nine strikeouts in WKU’s second victory over TTU. Masters had a pair of two RBI home runs during the weekend.
WKU defeated SHSU 5-1 in the team’s last faceoff in March 2024. The Bearkats hold a 9-12 overall record. Some SHSU standout players include sophomore pitcher Abigail Young and senior utility player Brodie Quinlan.
Young holds the lowest ERA of all CUSA pitchers with 0.74. Also, she’s combined for 27 strikeouts in the 2025 season. Quinlan leads SHSU in slugging percentage (.700), doubles (six) and home runs (four).
The first pitch of the three-game weekend is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, March 7.
