WKU Softball fell 9-5 to No. 21 ranked Ole Miss Tuesday in the Hilltoppers’ first midweek game of the 2025 season.
Freshman Erica Houge started on the mound for WKU, but she couldn’t find her rhythm. She walked the first two Ole Miss batters and allowed four runs. The Rebels capitalized and got out to an early and extensive lead.
Ole Miss consecutively scored on an RBI single, an RBI groundout and a two-run homer in the top of the first. A three-RBI double and an RBI groundout put the Rebels up 8-0 after the second.
The Hilltoppers got into their groove in the third. In the field, the Hilltoppers retired the first three Ole Miss batters. On the offensive end, a run from sophomore center fielder Kendle White and a two-RBI homer from sophomore infielder Maci Masters put WKU on the board.
Ole Miss quickly responded in the top of the fourth with an RBI double extending its lead to 9-3.
WKU answered with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. White’s RBI single led to a run from senior catcher Randi Drinnon. Freshman second baseman Charlotte Herron’s sacrifice fly scored junior left fielder Kaytlan Kemp.
The Hilltoppers trailed 9-5 after the fourth.
A quiet final three innings saw no scoring from either team. The game concluded in a 9-5 Hilltopper loss and extended WKU’s losing streak to three. The Hilltoppers are 14-9 on the season.
“We played two quality opponents, obviously with Ole Miss being ranked,” Head Coach Amy Tudor said about WKU’s three-game losing streak. “This was a really good test for us before we go into ranked Liberty.”
The Hilltoppers will host Liberty March 14-16 in their second conference series of the season. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday.
