SGA Pollooza will make its mark on WKU’s South Lawn Sunday.
The event, organized by the Student Government Association, will feature food trucks, music and tailgating.
“SGA Pollooza is a student-run event in every sense of the phrase,” Student Body President Sam Kurtz said in an email to the Herald. “It’s organized by students, for students, and every single performer taking the stage is a current WKU student. Think of it as a celebration of Hilltopper talent, spirit and creativity.”
The idea of SGA Pollooza came to life during a conversation between SGA members at sunset, where Kurtz noted that it would be cool to have a music festival on South Lawn with a sunset in the background. “Pollooza” uses the letter O to tie the event in with the beginning of the SGA election season playing into the word “polls,” with the spring election kicking off that night.
Kurtz said students can expect an all-day music festival with “chill vibes,” tailgating, good food, great music and the energy of the WKU student body. SGA will even work on streaming the final round of the Masters Tournament, Kurtz said.
Students are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and tents to begin setting up around 3 p.m.
The tentative performance schedule includes:
- DJ Soffoe: 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
- DJ Harvey: 3:50 p.m. to 4:50 p.m.
- DJ Butter: 4:55 p.m. to 5:55 p.m.
- DJ Dom: 6:00 p.m. to 7:10 p.m.
- Motlow: 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Tailgate rules are in effect for the event, meaning alcohol is allowed as long as the drink is kept in a cup.
“We’ll have the music going until almost 9 p.m., so it’s a great chance to soak up the weather, the campus energy and the last bit of the weekend before Monday hits,” Kurtz said.
