Bowling Green Police Department arrested former WKU Women’s Basketball junior guard Acacia Hayes Sunday night on charges of Criminal Mischief and Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence.
According to a citation from the Bowling Green Police Department, Hayes faces charges related to a vehicle collision with a fence at a local residence on Chestnut Street and 13th Avenue.
According to the citation, due to a recent surgery, Hayes couldn’t complete field sobriety tests and did not consent to a breath test, but showed signs of intoxication. She eventually told officers she had been drinking.
“We are aware of an incident involving a former student-athlete over the weekend,” a WKU Athletics Spokesperson told the Herald in an email. “The student involved informed the coaching staff of her intent to transfer on April 1 and entered the transfer portal on that date. She has not been part of the WKU women’s basketball program since then.”
