WKU Baseball outfielder Ryan Wideman was selected in the third round, 99th overall, of the MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres on Sunday night.
The Conference USA and Newcomer Player of the Year hit .398 with 68 RBIs, 10 home runs and 45 stolen bases, leading the conference in hits, triples (6), total bases (159) and stolen bases (45).
The Marietta, GA. native set the program stolen base record through the Hilltoppers Conference USA Championship winning campaign and hit for the first program cycle on March 11 in a 21-2 win over Southern Illinois.
Following the 2024-25 season, Wideman entered the transfer portal, ultimately landing at Clemson. The junior outfielder will have the opportunity to decline the MLB pick and play 2025-26 for the Tigers.
Wideman becomes the 63rd former Hilltopper to be drafted to the MLB and the third drafted by the Padres.
