Sophomore defender Abby Wiedermann’s third-minute goal secured a 1-0 win for WKU Soccer over the Jackson State Tigers on Thursday at the WKU Soccer Complex.
The Hilltoppers won six corners in the first half from tight pressure on the Tigers’ back line and won 13 fouls throughout the 90 minutes.
In the 3rd minute, sophomore defender Abby Wiedermann scored off a corner kick from junior midfielder Georgia Liapis.
“That’s a set place piece designed for her (Abby Wiedermann), and she put herself in the right spot, and all fell through,” said Head Coach Jason Neidell.
WKU had a successful match in the back, not allowing Jackson State a shot until the 49th minute and allowing just three on the night for their second consecutive clean sheet.
“We were able to step it up and really find some confidence in each other, and I think that helped carry us through these shutouts,” said Wiedermann.
WKU Soccer returns to action Thursday, Aug. 28, against Dayton at the WKU Soccer Complex.
