WKU Soccer dropped a road game to UAB 1-0 Thursday night.
After scoring their lone goal in the 39th minute, UAB held off WKU to earn the shutout win.
Coming off a dominant victory against the Bulldogs, WKU had all its mojo restored heading into its game against UAB. The Hilltoppers stood 2-1-1 versus the Blazers and 5-4-1 all-time.
WKU entered the first half with high intensity, showcasing early promise as they held the upper hand in time of possession, as two of the team’s six shots landed on target.
Despite WKU’s strong start, UAB struck first in the 39th minute on a fast break, capitalized by junior forward Lola Sommer to make it 1-0. Other contributions for the team came from UAB’s forward Lailah Stewart, who orchestrated much of the Blazers’ first-half attack, including a first-half assist to Sommer.
WKU entered the second half with minimal change as UAB kept WKU’s offense boxed in, preventing any chances for the Hilltoppers to even the score.
WKU soccer returns to action Sunday against Samford University at Shauna Yelton Field. Kickoff is set for 1 pm.
